Overview

Al Cortile is a distinctive restaurant nestled on Via Giovenale in the heart of Milan, offering both locals and visitors an intriguing culinary experience. The setting, an ex-industrial space, has been thoughtfully transformed into an elegant yet inviting venue, striking a balance between raw authenticity and refined design. This creates an atmosphere well-suited for intimate dinners, aperitifs, or small gatherings looking for a unique Milanese dining experience.

The menu at Al Cortile showcases a refined Italian repertoire with creative touches. Standout dishes such as the Petto d'Anatra paired with pumpkin and seeds reveal a delicate harmony of flavors and textures. The Bottoni di Coda di Manzo with salsa verde and tarragon in a rich fondo brun blend traditional techniques with modern refinement. Their risottos and antipasti, including artfully crafted items like polpo and trippa, emphasize freshness and depth without overwhelming complexity.

One of the more memorable offerings is the dessert selection, featuring inventive combinations like the hazelnut sponge with tonka bean paired with goat’s milk ice cream and raspberry powder—a creative finale to the meal that reflects the kitchen’s dedication to flavor balance and presentation.

Despite the evident attention to quality and aesthetics, some diners have noted the portion sizes lean toward minimalism. While this aligns with the ethos of contemporary fine dining, it may leave a more casual diner wanting. Nevertheless, the focus remains on precision and the elevation of each ingredient, which appeals to patrons appreciative of culinary artistry.

The service and ambiance receive high praise for their attentiveness and elegance, further enriched by the option of striking outdoor seating during pleasant weather. The staff’s friendliness and the restaurant’s openness to accommodate guests’ preferences reflect a genuine hospitality that complements the sophisticated space.

Al Cortile’s bar also deserves mention as a destination in its own right, with a compelling cocktail selection that embraces the venue’s vibrant yet tasteful vibe. This makes it a perfect spot not only for full dining experiences but also for socializing over drinks in a refined setting.

In summary, Al Cortile stands out as an innovative Milanese restaurant blending culinary finesse, a unique industrial-chic atmosphere, and welcoming service. It is ideally suited for diners who appreciate thoughtful plating, creative Italian cuisine, and a stylish backdrop, even if those seeking more substantial portions might want to plan accordingly. Whether visiting for a relaxed aperitivo or an elegant dinner, Al Cortile offers a memorable slice of Milan’s contemporary food scene.

The very special ex industrial hidden place in Milan. Very special, very nice. We were there for a Christmas event with DJ session. Everything would be fine, but not the event the thought to organise. The speakers were very loud and in a bad position, so it was hard to be there. The music had nothing to do with Christmas. It was retro music event, but the music choice was very poor, not quality music and DJ didn't do a good job. Very loud bad music, very hard to stay. We dacend a bit, but than we run away quite early.

The ambiance is truly extraordinary, meticulously detailed, and the service is also very attentive and elegant. However, there is one critique to be made regarding the cuisine. Not about the quality, as it is truly noteworthy, but about a fundamental aspect: the portion sizes. I am accustomed to dining in restaurants where the quantity on the plate is reduced for reasons of style, aesthetics, and the etiquette of refined culinary art. But in this case, we are truly talking about dishes with extremely small proportions. Three, I repeat, three tiny slices of pumpkin cannot be considered an appetizer, especially at that price. Just a small addition of food quantity without exaggeration would be enough, and at least it wouldn't risk leaving customers hungry at the end of the evening. It's a criticism that needs to be heard because there were eight of us last night, and we all shared the same sentiment.

Lovely atmosphere with tables outside. Staff was very nice and allowed us to have an aperitivo outside even if they were not serving there. Food was delicious and the wine list was the cherry on the cake :)
